What materials you need to craft a lantern are:
- Torch: You can craft a torch by using a stick and a piece of coal.

How To Make Lanterns In Minecraft: Step-By-Step Tutorial
All you do is you take those iron nuggets, and you take some torches, and then you combine them. So this is your classic crafting recipe.
Step 1: First of All, You need a Torch, and if you don’t have then craft it using a stick and a piece of coal. What you have to do is to place both stick and coal in crafting UI and then it will convert into a torch.
Step 2: After crafting the torch, you need 8 iron nuggets that can be made through one iron ingot. You just have to place that iron ingot in crafting UI and then it will turn into 9 iron nuggets. However, you only need 8 to make lanterns in Minecraft.
Step 3: Now, you have materials that are required to make lanterns in Minecraft. What you have to do is to place the Torch at the center of the crafting UI then surround that torch with the iron nuggets and that’s your Lantern.
That’s it… This is your tutorial to make lanterns in Minecraft but when you build them, you can’t just put them straight on walls, they have to be hanging from something.
So you can’t put them on like that. But if you put a block there, you can put one there. And if you put one on the ceiling then they can hang from that ceiling. And To unplaced that lantern you need to use a Pickaxe so that they don’t get destroyed. However, I don’t think this is a silk touch pick and it’s pretty useful if you want a more medieval look, which is what most of the stuff in Minecraft goes for. You can make a more medieval look around the buildings.
