One of the hardest challenges in all of Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is the Inferno. Located deep beneath the volcanic city of Mor Ul Rek, this 69-wave combat gauntlet puts players through the ultimate test before they can get their hands on the coveted Infernal Cape.
Securing the Infernal Cape is no easy feat. The right equipment needed for taking on the Inferno and its waves can cost quite a pretty penny. That’s why players look for the cheapest OSRS gold to make sure they’re not breaking the bank. Trying to handle the challenge yourself can take weeks of grueling trial and error. That’s why some players might opt for a OSRS Infernal cape service instead to secure the reward.
Essential Gear Requirements
Contents
Here’s what you’ll want to stock up on before taking on the Inferno.
- Weapons: You’ll definitely want to have a long-range weapon on you. The Twisted Bow or Tumeken’s Shadow are your best picks.
- Armor: Players typically use a “switch” system. Ancestral robes help with freezing enemies, while Justiciar or Masori armor offer protection against the waves.
- Inventory: Be sure to have a mix of Saradomin Brews, Super Restores, and Bastion Potions on hand. Don’t forget to bring a Rune Pouch with Blood Barrage and Ice Barrage runes — they’re an absolute must for healing and crowd control.
Core Mechanics: The Three Pillars of Survival
The Inferno is no walk in the park. There are plenty of guides out there that can help you through the process. What you’ll need for sure is to have the following three mechanics down pat.
Pillar Management
The arena features three pillars. These will be extremely helpful and serve as cover from the projectiles flung your way from the TzHaar-Ket-Zek (Magers) and Jal-Xil (Rangers). They don’t only serve as cover though, as you can use them to corner trap your enemies behind them, letting you pick them off one-by-one.
Prayer Flicking
Run out of prayer points and you’re looking at a downward slide straight to failure. You’ll want to stick to Lazy flicking (turning your protection prayer on only for the tick an enemy attacks) or 1-tick flicking to help save your resources during the waves.
Nibbler Control
Jal-Nib-Rek (Nibblers) appear at the start of every wave. Their goal is to destroy your pillars causing you to lose cover. You absolutely can’t let that happen. Always prioritize freezing and eliminating Nibblers the moment a wave begins.
Wave Strategy: The Road to 69
The waves increase in difficulty as you progress. If you’re fond of difficulty, you should definitely try cover fire shooting. Here’s how to approach them:
- Waves 1–35 (The Early Game): Use these waves to practice your prayer flicking. Make sure to conserve your supplies during this stage.
- Waves 35–62 (The Mid Game): The Magers (Jal-Zek) begin to appear. Keep your Mage protection prayer active whenever they have a line of sight. Use Ice Barrage to keep Melee enemies at a distance.
- Waves 63–66 (The Pressure Cooker): For these waves you’ll need to put the pillars to good use, as having good cover could save your life.
- Wave 67 & 68 (The Final Hurdles): Keep your cool during these last few waves as you’ll encounter five JalTok-Jads. Focus on your prayer switches based on their animation, and keep a close eye on your health, making sure it doesn’t drop too low.
The Final Boss: TzKal-Zuk
After taking on all 69 waves, you’ll be facing the Inferno’s final boss: TzKal-Zuk.
- Follow the Shield: At the start of the fight, a moving Ancestral Shield will appear. Make sure to stay behind it at all times to avoid taking a massive blast of damage from Zuk.
- The Healer Phase: Once you get Zuk to 240 HP, Healers will spawn. Distract them by attacking each one once while still staying hidden behind the shield.
- Stay Calm: Stick to the rhythm of the shield, and don’t rush your attacks.
